Indigenous Literacy Day

Remote Education, Arnhem Land, Australia

The reading theme for this month is grow.

Indigenous Literacy Day is about growing readers, and about readers growing in their skills.

Indigenous Literacy Day aims to help raise funds to raise literacy levels and improve the lives and opportunities of Indigenous Australians living in remote and isolated regions (to quote from their website).

Look at the Indigenous Literacy Day website for some ideas about how can assist.

It is also a day to start reading something by an Indigenous author.  Anita Heiss (one of the Ambassadors for the National Year of Reading) has brought together a list of 99 titles (which is a great starting point).

Help Indigenous literacy to #grow.
