Do you #dream of reading Neal Stephenson?

June 21, 2012

Neal Stephenson Do you like to be excited by by what you read, exploring incredible ideas in interesting ways?  Neal Stephenson writes historical and science fiction.  These are long works as he explores history, science, games and other amazing ideas.  The length of the works may be offputting for some readers, but to me it means that I will have a brilliant adventure ahead as I read my way through amazing ideas and places.

He explores different ways of writing, a recent title The Mongoliad was released weekly (over many months) online and is a collaboration with Greg Bear and other writers and artists.  You can can read The Mongoliad online, or via app for free.

All Neal Stephenson novels contain a lot of detail, but unlike some other novelists who use description to set the scene, in a Neal Stephenson novel you know you will need any descriptive information later on, it is not just put in for interest.

If you have not read Neal Stephenson before, and don’t think you could even dream of finishing, try The Mongoliad or Anathem and see what happens.

Have you heard of the games project he’s working on? Sounds very exciting. 🙂

I’ve been meaning to read Cryptonomicon ever since I was in uni. 10+ years later, I’ve still not picked it up. Thank you for recommending this author – it has reawakened my desire to experience his work.

Neal Stephenson is dense. Cryptonomicon was readable but so multi-threaded I got lost. Yet my then 15yo son devoured it and loved it as well as Anatheam. I think the universe inside Stephensons head is larger than the physical universe!
